The theme of a 8 year
An 8 year has a businesslike wind behind it. Promotions, raises, deals, launches, and significant purchases cluster here, and so do the consequences of how you have handled resources all cycle. Authority is available this year in a way it was not during the reflective 7: people take your calls, your price, and your leadership more seriously. The year’s question is not whether you can gain ground. It is whether you can gain it cleanly, and keep your health and relationships in the same portfolio.
What this year rewards
- Asking: for the raise, the rate, the role, the terms you actually want.
- Financial decisiveness: consolidating, investing, renegotiating, charging what the work is worth.
- Visibility in professional form: the launch, the presentation, the application for the bigger thing.
- Harvesting: collecting what earlier years are owed, including debts of gratitude repaid to your supporters.
Watch out for
- Work swallowing the whole life: the 8 year will take everything you feed it; cap the hours before it eats the point of the exercise.
- Money as scoreboard only: some of this year’s gains should convert into time, security, or generosity, not only into a bigger number.
- Shortcuts under pressure: the year’s speed tempts corner cutting; the 9 year that follows is famous for exposing it.
Making the most of it
Set two or three concrete material goals early in the year and pursue them like a campaign, with the same planning you would give any serious project. Expect negotiations and decisions to concentrate mid year, and a sense of arrival, plus tiredness, late in the year. Bank some of the harvest deliberately: the closing 9 year ahead is for completion and release, not for one more expansion, and entering it with reserves makes letting go graceful instead of frightening.
